Conversion Scholarship/Loan Programs

Critical Needs Teacher Loan/Scholarship (CNTP)
Eligibility: Junior or senior student enrolled full-time or part-time (minimum of six hours) in a Mississippi college or university who agrees to work as a full-time classroom teacher in a public school located in a critical teacher shortage area of Mississippi immediately upon degree completion and maintains at least a 2.5 GPA.
Awards: Tuition and required fees plus average cost of room and meals plus $500 allowance for books at a public college or university. Participants attending a private college or university will receive an award amount equal to the award at the nearest comparable public college or university.
Application: Mississippi Student Financial Aid Scholarship Application. Application deadline is March 31.
 
Health Care Professions Loans/Scholarship
Eligibility: Mississippi resident who is a junior, senior, or graduate student at a Mississippi college or university and is majoring in speech pathology, psychology, or, if in graduate school, in physical therapy or occupational therapy and exhibits satisfactory academic progress standards. Students must agree to work one year at a state-operated health institution for each year the award was received.
Awards: Undergraduate participants are eligible to receive up to $1,500 per year for up to two years.
Application: Mississippi Student Financial Aid Application. Application deadline is March 31.
 
Nursing Education Loan Scholarship Program (NELS) (NELS-BSN)
Eligibility: Mississippi resident who is a junior or senior attending a Mississippi college or university either full-time or part-time seeking a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) and has achieved a 2.5 GPA on all college work. Students must agree to work as a nurse at a health care facility in Mississippi or teach at an accredited school of nursing for one year for each year award is received.
Awards: Participants are eligible to receive up to $2,000 a year for up to two years.
Application: Mississippi Student Financial Aid Application. Application deadline is March 31.
 
Nursing Education Loan Scholarship Program (NELS) (NELS-RN to BSN)
Eligibility: Mississippi resident who is currently licensed as a registered nurse, has been admitted to an accredited School of Nursing in Mississippi either full-time or part-time seeking a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN), and has at least a 2.5 GPA on all college work. Students must agree to work as a nurse at a health care facility in Mississippi or teach at an accredited school of nursing for one year for each year award is received.
Awards: Participants are eligible to receive up to $1,500 a year for up to two years.

William Winter Teacher Scholar Loan (WWTS)
Eligibility: Mississippi full-time student who is a junior or senior (a limited number of awards may be available to freshmen and sophomores if funds are available) at a Mississippi college or university and can verify intention to pursue a first-bachelor degree in teacher education, can document that Praxis I has been passed or applicant is exempt from this requirement, and agrees to become a full-time classroom teacher in a Mississippi public school immediately upon degree completion. The student must maintain a 2.5 GPA. Students must agree to be employed as a full-time classroom teacher in a Mississippi public school for one year for each year award is received. Applicants for WWTS should not apply for CNTP. A limited number of awards may be available for freshmen and sophomores if funds are available. Call the Mississippi Office of Financial Aid at 800.327.2980 for eligibility information for freshmen and sophomores.
Awards: Junior and senior participants are eligible to receive up to $3,000 per year and may continue to receive funds for the normal time required to complete the teacher education curriculum.
